It's Never Too Late to Plan for the Future

Time is something we all think about - how much we have and how we use it to prepare for the future. The Keep Farmers Farming Legacy Program is here to help farmers and ranchers build a plan that cares for their families and the next generation.

Legacy Director Alan Hojer believes it’s never too late to plan for the future, whether that’s bringing in the next generation to the farm or ranch or mapping a path to retirement and eventual wealth distribution.

Hojer has seen firsthand the peace that comes when farmers finally take that step. “It’s very important it’s their plan, it’s their family, and ultimately the plan fits what they want to have happen with their family. That’s what peace is about. There’s an internal calm about it. That’s when we find peace,” shares Alan.

Hojer has worked with farmers well into their 90s who’ve finally taken these steps for the future. After years of avoiding the issue, many say they are relieved when the burden is lifted and wonder why they waited so long. “And I thought if not now, then when? Do they want to worry about this stuff for the rest of their life? Whatever ‘this stuff’ means? Whether it’s the transition of our children into the operation or their estate planning. Why wait? Why not go to work and find your path forward? There’s help out there and the relief that people get is really rewarding to see once we get there,” said Alan.

Keep Farmers Farming is here to support producers through this important journey.
